Our History

Inspired from the heart of God and with great excitement and enthusiasm, our church began on September 15, 1980 as a small Bible study consisting of seven families.  Their commitment was to develop a multi-cultural church that would be relevant to the generation we serve (Acts 13:36) and would impact their community through team-related ministry.  Within a few months their numbers grew as several families joined them as they focused their attention on nurturing a new generation with a heart for the nations.

In October 1983, the Word of the Lord came in Presbytery to our Pastors Jim & Linda Cucuzza.  They were sent to pastor what would become Rock Church of Southern Maryland. The church initially met in the Long Beach Civic Center and later rented the former Island Creek School building. The church began growing, and land was purchased for a future church site on the southwest corner of Route 4 and Ball Road in July 1984.

In 1991 we broke ground and construction of our new church began. In January of 1992, Crossroad Christian Church (formerly Rock Church of Southern Maryland) held its first service in our new building. The Lord has provided us with many opportunities to mature, develop, and grow within the ministry He has given to us. We have seen how imperative it is to reach the world for Christ as He has commanded us to.

Our ministry has established several churches in the state of Maryland, as well as overseas in the Ukraine. Also, we have many outreaches in Calvert County to benefit our community.  As we are diligent to plant the seed for Christ and allow it to be watered, we have faith that God will provide the increase.  Over the years, God has truly been faithful in doing just as His Word declares. God has given us a vision of excellence, commitment, and dedication. Putting God first, before all things and in every way, provides us with assurance of His Holy Spirit guiding us along the path of life.

Over the past twenty years our church has developed into an expression of who we are, our cultural context, and calling to ministry. Our small beginnings have made a substantial contribution to the Lord’s work among the nations. But our history is hardly yet history… for the nations are still waiting for the history that is yet to be written by this people (Romans 8:19, 21).

To update our history we just completed our new addition which includes a new sanctuary and room for our daycare to move into.
